The Christian Mephistopheles

I would have called this "The Modern Mephistopheles: but then I did not want to confuse it with Louisa May Alcott's (Also author of /Little Women/) /A Modern
Mephistopheles/. This does not have to do with her novelette or even as far back as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's /Faust/, the story of an alchemist named Faust who desired knowledge so much that he sells his soul to the devil. This pertains to my own experience and now my warning with the modern day Christian or I should say, most modern day Christians as I have seen from my own personal life.

For those that are unfamiliar with Mephistopheles, a short description is due. When I use his name I do not refer to him as a literal being but as a description. It is derived from the Creek "Mephostophiles" which literally means "He who shuns the light." As I said, I wish to use this as a description of modern day Christians, in other words: "Christians who shun the light."

I grew up a Christian and even more a baptist, still to this day if you were to associate my beliefs with a particular denomination it would be that of a baptist. I attended a baptist Christian school in Madison, Tennessee which is about a thirty minute drive northeast from Tennessee's capital, Nashville. From the age of five until the age of eighteen this is where I learned the scripture and also where I was a member of church and attended with ardor every Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening. When I became a bit older I joined the youth department of this church that was led by a great, yet lacking in mind, youth pastor. Every Saturday I went to the church and join him in visiting the other teenagers that had attended a service and scarcely we would attend those that already were in attendance. On Thursday nights we had visitation, where most of the time we would go door to door looking for new members to come and visit or to give out the plan of salvation to those we considered lost. I also dabbled a little in playing the keyboard in the youth group's band. In summer many of us would attend a youth camp and on the last summer camp I went I had walked down the streets and led fourteen people to Christ. These are the years when the fire of God woke up in my heart. I began to diligently study the word of God day in and day out. As much as possible, when I had free time to do so, I would open my Bible and study. I saw this book as the book that had been written by God's own guidance. This became the single most important thing in my life.

I became even a bit older with the fire of God still consuming my heart. By this time I was beginning to notice that I was becoming more and more disappointed with the human race, along with my own self. I wished almost every day that I could pluck the essence of what made me human out of my soul. I became more attentive to how other Christians acted at this time and was noticing things that made my heart turn bitter and it was the only thing that had the opportunity to extinguish the fire in my heart. I stayed how I had always been, mute. I held inside me an even stronger fire, a fire of rage against the church, people were not lost by their own will but by the lack of will in the church. This is not to say that I was angered that man sinned, but that I was angered by what I refer to as "Christian makeup." Those that put on this Christian makeup and pretend they have the strength to put away human nature.
"Blasphemers! Adulterers! Wicked fools!", I said in my heart. They were Christian Mephistopheles. Christians who looked down on others for their sins as if they were gods themselves. I said in my heart "Wake yourselves, this was the fall of Satan! If God cast out even his most beautiful creature what luck do you posses that God will have mercy on even you!? Did you not read Matthew when he wrote, 'Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.(Matt. 7:22 & 23)' " This pierced my heart greater than anything else. I saw it day in and day out, the work of this iniquity. The ones that spoke the most of how others had sinned, those ones that talked about other's wrongdoings, they were the ones to me that showed the least amount of fruit. What good does it do to bring a fellow Christian down, when they are human and so are you? Every one of you sin, if you had no sin you would not be here, you would be purged from the shackles of earth. The more I saw this the more I felt anguished until I was determined the only thing I could do was to leave.

For the next few years I missed many of the companionships that I had while attending and not too long ago I decided I would once again try to attend on a Sunday. What bitter emptiness I felt in my heart when I entered. The eyes of others glared at me with indignation. No one would have to be a student of physiognomy to know what they were thinking. I was the wretched sinner that had fallen and come back, I was in essence the the prodigal son. How wrong they were, for it wasn't God I had lost but them. I sat and listened intently to the message being preached. It was the Lord's supper. The preacher had spoken of how Jesus Christ had been tossed out and betrayed by his own friends and his own people. I could not help but to suffer a little of what Christ had to have felt that day. While the world at this moment looked on him as a blasphemer, He knew the truth and He still loved him. I took part of the Lord's supper and at the end of service I filled out a visitor card.

It was that Thursday that I heard a knock at the door. I opened it. Two men from the church were standing there to talk to me. The gaze in their eyes was a friendly one, one that was warm to my heart. This too soon turned bitter as one of them said, "I know how easy it is to fall out of the loop." He was referring to me falling out of church. At that moment I saw myself through his eyes and it mourned me. The compassion I had felt just before this was dissipated into thin air. I nodded my head in a form of agreement with him. I took the warm cookies they had brought to me and we talked for a little longer. After a little while they said a prayer for me on my porch and then invited me to come back Easter Sunday. I agreed.

Easter Sunday I saw many faces I had not seen in many years. Again I noticed the piercing vexed eyes of those that saw me as being lost. This is not to say they all were this way, I saw a few people that were diligently glad I was there, but for the most part it was judgmental. I came early that day to see many of them. I stood near the back and watched as they entered into where we would have service. My eyes glistened as I saw many who rekindled memories in me and made me feel happy to see once again but out of all that I saw only four talked with me. Most of them only stared and may have been uncomfortable with talking with me, but I can not be certain. One thing I am certain of is that I sat in the back alone. No one sat next to me or even dared to ask if I would sit with them. I felt the bitterness I had once before again and was reluctant to let the tears building up behind my eyes escape. These were once my friends and now they despised me. I sat there and watched the preacher give the Easter sermon.

If I, having a history with them and knowing them, felt desolate; then how would those that come not knowing them feel? How do you expect to grow and how, if most of your church is a Christian Mephistopheles, do you not wonder? I have held to myself too long. It has been a dilemma that has perplexed and ate away at my very soul for a very long time. I can not hold this in any more and the truth must be told. You heathens! The Church can not save you from God's judgment. Bid peace to those you do not know and be careful not to judge. Can you not read or is that you are unwilling to read the words of Christ? Matt. 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged." John 8:15 "Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man." and from this same chapter in John have you not heard the story "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."? Do not think I am judging you, if I were judging you I would have called you out by name and
would have told other people your names and what you have done wrong. I only wish to edify the church. To encourage you to look for greater things than what is in yourself. Preacher preach to them! I know for certain that in a congregation so full of judgment that they must judge even you!

Why Are You All So Fat

I posted this up on my myspace blog and sent it out in a bulletin as well and thought I'd share it to my blog readers here as well.

Not sure how many people knew this or cared for that matter but 1 frappuccino has more calories than a big mac and a medium coke combined.

Also I know a lot of people like pepsi, coke etc.. but I drink mostly water ... and eat ALOT... I was looking over just how much sugar was in a coke it's insane... drinking 8 glasses of coke, which most probably do in America is like eating 16 snicker bars a day! So for every glass of coke you drink it is like eating 2 snickers bars.

8 glasses of coke a day a week... that's 112 snicker bars!

I'm not even making this up... insaneness, America is getting fatter and fatter it's so sad...

I thought I'd also just tell you what happens to your body after you drink a coke... This is taken straight from a health article but I thought it might be of great value and add to what I'm saying...

* In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don't immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
* 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There's plenty of that at this particular moment)
* 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
* 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.
* >60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.
* >60 Minutes: The caffeine's diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you'll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.
* >60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you'll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You've also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

This will all be followed by a caffeine crash in the next few hours. (As little as two if you're a smoker.) But, hey, have another Coke, it'll make you feel better.

I have personally seen people stop drinking coke and that being their only diet plan. and losing incredible amounts of weight.. you wont believe what water will do for you. Most of the time you think you are hungry it's actually your dehydration reflex, but because we Americans drink so much soda the symptom is so weak that we mistake it almost always as hunger. If you ever have a dry or sticky mouth then you are already way below chronically dehydrated and that should be a sure sign to know your not drinking enough water.

I know some people hate the taste of water as well, if so, drink gaterade or powerade, or you can just add lemon to you water, lemon is awesome because it's a fat free flavor and also can reduce your risk of cancer with limonene, furocoumarins and vitamin C.

Netflix Vs Blockbuster

The past few days Ive heard rant after rant of NetFlix's great new Watch Now feature, which I have to admit is pretty cool :) but is Netflix really beating Blockbuster with this new feature... well not exactly, let me explain. Recently Netflix just added a new option to watch movies online in their new Watch Now section... first of all... there aren't many titles here, which I know they are frantically added titles... second... Blockbuster has already started the process of buying Movielink.... Movielink, in my honest opinion is a MUCH nicer service then what Netflix currently has with Watch Now. I have to admit tho I am a Netflix customer, but I don't see this as the TRUE reason why Netflix is better... because before long... it wont be.

Weight Lose with Traineo

So I've bee gaining a bit of extra weight over the past 6 months, I think its been from working at Dell... sitting on my butt all day, eating McDonald's almost every day for 2 straight months didnt help either. First Calls at Dell

Wow has it really been three weeks. I think I need to update my blog more huh. Anyways, today I start taking my first calls that come into Dell and I am a bit nervous, kinda scared that Im going to choke up etc. Ill do my best tho. Im really excited about working for Dell, so far it has been a blast.
